Message from the Clinic
Dear Families,
Thank you to all of you for being so diligent in monitoring your children at home and not sending your child to school if they are sick! This is an important step to avoid spreading all infectious illnesses.
A few helpful reminders:
- Sleep: Elementary aged children need roughly 9-12 hours of sleep each night. A good night’s sleep helps our Dreamers do their best to focus and do well in school!
- Here is some helpful information about good sleep habits!
- Headaches: We encourage students to be drinking plenty of water throughout the day. Please reinforce this at home. It is especially important on those particularly hot days!
- Cold-like symptoms: While we have been cautious about students who have any cold-like symptoms, we understand that some students have chronic conditions such as asthma or seasonal allergies that mimic a cold. Please help us at home by reiterating the importance of covering coughs and sneezes, using and disposing tissues, and continue to practice a lot of correct handwashing.
- Handwashing is the number one way to prevent infection and its importance cannot be stressed enough!

- Earaches: If a student has a complaint about an earache, it is encouraged that they be seen by their doctor to rule out infection. We will always give you a call if a student reports an earache.
- Tooth/Mouth: If a student has a complaint about their teeth/mouth hurting it is advised that they be seen by a dentist as soon as possible. Again, we will always inform you if a student comes to the clinic with any mouth/teeth complaints.
- Nit/Lice checks: This is a common finding in schools, but we want to try to get ahead and avoid an outbreak. This is just a reminder to be checking your students and treating at home if necessary.
- Bathroom accidents: Please continue to encourage students to notify their teacher if they need to use the restroom. We will always notify you if there is a bathroom accident. Please send an extra change of clothes for your student. *Extra socks are a good idea for all ages!
- Medications: If you wish to have any medications (including over-the-counter medications) at school for your student, please note that there is a Medication Authorization Form that must be filled out by you and the student’s doctor.
- Screenings: For elementary school students, certain health screenings are mandated by Florida Administrative Code 64F-6.003. For grades K-2 these include the following: Vision, Hearing and Growth and Development. Health Screenings are scheduled for December and will be held right on campus.
